Project Runway Finale

Before I tell you what I thought about the Project Runway finale, I have to express my amazement at the number of people who watch this show. Half of my internet snowboard clique (which is mostly guys) watches it. Plus lots of other friends. Even my boss has seen it.

So I have to admit I didn’t watch PR as religiously this season as the first, not because I didn’t think it was good, but because I just haven’t been watching much tv. I did catch up on a lot during the marathon though.

These were my favorite looks of the finale…

So on to the lines…

I have to say I liked Daniel’s line a lot more than people are giving him credit for. Yes, it didn’t have the visual runway punch of Chloe or even Santino’s lines, but that he was able to create such interesting things in a demure line really speaks to me. I think the judges were blind when they say they didn’t see the asian influence in his line. Several of his pieces had collars and necklines there were obviously inspired by japanese kimonos. This one screams kimono, but there are others if you look. His 13th dress, the camel colored cashmere one, was gorgeous. However my favorite had to be the brown vested shirt.

The judges said that Santino’s line was very safe for Santino. I would say it was boring…for anyone! All of his dresses looked like the models had sacks around their breasts. I thought the ombred silks he used were very trite. The only dress I really liked was the long red one with the fabric detailing around the bust. There were definitely a few disasters in his line, and his 13th dress was okay. The line was underwhelming sort of in the way of Daniel’s line, but certainly not executed to level of Daniel’s. Plus I don’t like Santino, so I was happy that he was the first to go…just like Wendy Pepper.

I’ve generally liked all of Chloe’s designs. She makes cool looking pieces that still look wearable. I still remember that dress she made when they had the Clothes Off Your Back Challenge. It was fantastic. Anyway I was a little worried when her first model hit the runway…rose satin, big poofy sleeves, and gathered skirt? Shudder. The next 2 models wore dresses in a green flower print fabric. I really liked the mini dress version.テつ I wasn’t very into her use of matching shrugs, but since she used it in several pieces I guess it worked for the overall line. Chloe’s fits and seaming are exquisite.テつ She also has a unique way of using contrasting banding and ribbons to accentuate the lines of her pieces. I had two favorite looks. I loved the brown lace shrug, the colors, the pants, and the overall look of this, um, look. Her last gown was just breathtaking. I loved the colors, the cutouts, the seam lines.テつ What a way to end your show.

I really have to give myself a little pat on the back for being spot on with most of the judges comments. Other than the Daniel Asian thing, I had most of the same thoughts as I watched the show.テつ Debra Messing is looking good again. I don’t really like Nina. And what was with them bowing down to the alter of Santino? He’s been kept on the show for so long because he makes for good tv, not because his designs have been great. Hello? Remember the paillette covered gown?

I was glad to see Chloe win. I was chatting with some friends who liked Chloe’s line the best but thought due to the freak factor that Santino was going to win, but I stuck with her as my pick. Oh and Iテつ テ「邃「ツ・ Tim.
