Magenta Tipped Nails

I did a fun little manicure today with a sheer iridescent pink base, magenta tips and a glitter stripe.

I really want to do one of those cool glitter ombre manis but I don’t have the right kind of glitter.

Water Marbled Nails

Last time I was at my sister’s house she showed me how to water marble nails. It’s a pretty easy process with all stuff I already had, so I gave it a try today. There are several videos on youtube you can watch if you want to give this a try. Just search watermarble nails.

The one thing they don’t really show is masking your nails with tape. I used 3 pieces of scotch tape on each nail. One around the bottom of my nail. Then a piece than ran along the side of my nail, then over top of my fingertip. Then a third piece along the other side. You may still need to clean the polish off but this is way better than no masking at all.

Anyway, first I painted my nails white then I used 4 colors of polish. It’s mainly the 2 lighter colors, with 2 drops of blue and one drop of the dark orange. The colors I used were Essie 800 Blanc for the base coat. Then I used Essie 584 Tart Deco, Essie 736 Beach Bum Blu, Nicole 234 You Can!, and Nicole 047 Nic’s Favorite to do the marbling.

The color is actually less intense and orange than appears in this photo. It’s a bright matte coral.

Nic’s Sticks Review

Last month I was in a class down on Wall Street and was poking around the Duane Reade on my lunch break. I decided to pick up a Nic’s Sticks nail polish in “Are We There Yet” which is sort of a mauvish pink for $7. I believe it’s the color on the top left in the photo.

Nic’s Sticks are part of the Nicole by Opi line.

This is not normal nail polish – it’s a paint marker with a brush tip. To use it you shake it up then pump it a few times to get the paint flowing and then paint. The first time I used it I was just painting a thin coat over a dark polish that I didn’t like. It seemed to work ok.

A couple of weeks later I decided to use it normally and I was very disappointed. I shook and I pumped and primed and such but I could not get the paint to flow. I’m not sure if it was out of paint or just not working. I had only done a single, light coat so it would be very disappointing if I only got one use out of it. So I checked and it contains .135oz of polish. To compare your $8 bottle of Nicole by Opi has .5oz.

I also read some reviews and most people are saying this nail polish chips like crazy.

At a cheaper price, say $3 or $4, this might be worthwhile, but for $7 I expect more than 1.5 uses. My advice – use Essie.

Really Stupid Beauty Products: ColorOn EyeEnvy

I got an email today from Sephora about “6 Life-Changing Beauty Innovations!”. My favorite is ColorOn EyeEnvy Eyeshadow appliques. Yes, you heard right. If you can’t figure out how to do your eyeshadow you can just slap one of these on your eyes. From the brochure it looks like you apply them kind of like temporary tattoos but without the water. I’d worry that the people who might need to use this product would also be those most likely to poke themselves in the eye.

It’s $25 for 5 sets so it’ll cost you $5 every time you use one. For that much you might as well just go pay for makeup lessons and buy some quality eyeshadows.
